What size heater do I need?
You need the following information.
Width, length & height of heated area.
Coldest outside temperature expected during the heating times.
The temperature that you want.
What kind of structure is being heated (tight & insulated, tight & un-insulated, loose, canvas)?
Take this information and calculate:
The heated surface area (A): (height x length x 2) + (height x width x 2) + (width x length).
The temperature rise (T): (Temp. you want – coldest temp outside).
The heat transfer coefficient (H): (tight &insulated = 0.25, tight &un-insulated = 0.75, loose = 1.25, canvas = 2.00).
Finally to get the amount of heat needed (Q) calculate: Q = A x T x H, and take the heater with the next largest Btu rating.
